Free Admission and Family Fun at the County Museum
Admission is free at the San Bernardino County Museum on Sunday, March 6, thanks to a generous contribution from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. Family Fun Day activities are scheduled on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
During "Rock On, Rock Art," visitors will learn about petroglyphs and pictographs: ancient rock art. Petroglyphs are designs carved into rocks; pictographs are designs painted on rocks with natural pigments. Both forms of rock art have existed since prehistoric times throughout the world; the museum collections include examples from inland Southern California. Families will see pictographs and petroglyphs in the museum collections, and can try their skills at creating their own rock art. A fee of $1 will be charged for the craft activity.
Family Fun Days are designed for parents and grandparents with children ages 3 to 12. Activities are led by the museum education division and volunteers from the Museum Youth Club.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. General admission is $6 (adult), $5 (student or senior), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12). Children under five and Museum Association members are admitted free, and everyone will be admitted free on Sunday, March 6. Parking is free, and the facility is handicapped-accessible. The museum's Garden Café will be open for lunch and snacks between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and the Exploration Station live animal gallery will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org or call (909) 307-2669 / TDD/TTY: (909) 792-1462.
