Chen Louis To Discuss Chinese Needlework at County Museum
The San Bernardino County Museum will host a lecture and slide show about Chinese needlework with Betty Chen Louis on Thursday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. The program is open to the public at no charge.
“Please come with me on my first visit home to China after 58 years away,” says Chen Louis. “We’ll first go to Beijing and then to Guizhou in western China. I was able to return to these two areas where I lived as a child when I took part in a study tour, and I would like to share with you some of my experiences and a few textiles samples from the Miao minority groups in Guizhou.”
Betty Chen Louis, born in Beijing, has studied color and design with Patricia Lambert. Her special interests include shading and interpretive stitching. She has done research in the textile rooms of museum in the United States, Canada, and Asia. She has taught seminars in the United States, Australia, and Canada.
The lecture is sponsored by the San Bernardino Chapter, American Needlepoint Guild. The guild is part of the Western Textile Center Association, an affiliate of the San Bernardino County Museum.
