Free Admission Sunday at the County Museum
The San Bernardino County Museum invites the public to visit the museum in Redlands during regular museum hours with no admission fee on Sunday, October 2. Visitors will enjoy special exhibits as well as displays of specimens and artifacts that interpret local history, anthropology, geology, paleontology, and biological sciences in regional context. Families can also participate in “Animal Masks,” with Family Fun Day activities designed for families with kids ages 3 to 12. “Animal Mask” activities are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are also offered free of charge by the museum’s education division and the Museum Youth Club.
“Kids will create their own masks to see the world through the eyes of a wolf, a desert tortoise, a ladybug, a butterfly, or an owl,” said Nancy Kirkwood, museum educator. “Of course, children who want to create a different animal – even an imaginary one – will be encouraged to do so.”
Special exhibits at the museum which will be open on Sunday include “First Weapons: The Art of Hunting Game,” sponsored in part by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. A new exhibit, “Beaded Treasures,” features beaded objects ranging in age from the Victorian era to the late 1920s. The exhibit includes three vintage dresses from the museum’s costume collection. The Fine Arts Institute’s Annual Open art exhibition will be open in the museum’s Fisk Gallery.
